One of the clients I train is a Doctor and I asked him the other day what the number one issue most of his patients came in for. To no surprise, the number one issue most of his clients had was back pain.

Back pain is something almost all of us for suffer with from time to time. Furthermore, back pain is one of the issues that rarely gets fully better on its own. It’s not something we can just forget about and let heal. Weak back and core muscles often lead to a weaker back and core. This can lead to problems such as nerve impingement, disc problems and so much more.

So how do you fix back pain?

One of the most important things you want to understand about back pain is that it is often related to weakness of the surrounding tissues. To be clear, we’re talking about soft tissue back pain. The kind of back pain comes from the office, the car, the afternoon sport, or even the living room couch. Not something from a high impact car accident or a disc herniation.

So what do you do with this regular soft tissue back pain?

Believe it or not, one of the most important things to do with it is to strengthen your back and core. Getting Massage or Physiotherapy or fascial release for Chiropractors on your back and weak muscles will rarely improve them permanently. That being said, it will get you out of being stuck and let you feel the good position you are supposed to maintain.

Start Thinking Posture

With us sitting around more and more, our posture goes south. Gravity compresses us and we start shortening tissues. This can often lead to the typical back pain most Vancouverites suffer from.

When my body is jammed up, I start with a good Physio or Chiro and they get me back in line. Then I go to work on the exercises and regain my proper posture.

The trick is to have a proper program created with proper exercises. Get re-aligned from your Physio or Chiro and then learn exercises to stay there. You may find certain ones are more beneficial than others and that’s fine. Just follow the routine to regain your strength and function.

It’s a good idea to get a trainer to help you do this if you’re not sure how to rehab and get back in shape at the same time.

It Doesn’t Take Long

In many cases, it only takes a few sessions to learn how to keep your back and core strong. Once you know what to do, you might be able to avoid back pain for the rest of your life.
