It’s about 4 days a week to get really fit.

But wait! It’s not as bad as it sounds.

There are two big tricks to it..

First, you’ve got to make sure each day is worthwhile. Two days of weights are vastly different from two days of Yoga.

You can fine tune your program and see what works best for you to see if you get results from yoga or walking or 20-30 minutes of resistance training.

Second, don’t go too long. This is probably the biggest mistake I see with people trying to get in shape. They bite off too much. You ARE allowed to go to the gym for 30 mins and leave. You can also go for a 25 min run. This will allow you to train slightly more often instead of doing 90 minute leg workouts. Leave that to the fitness competitors.

The Other Key

Split workouts. Split workouts mean you hit different muscle groups each time you workout. theoretically, you can go in and do 4 total body workouts a week but, it’s going to get super repetitive and kinda boring too. Instead, go to split workouts and you’ll find your recovery and variability will improve. I think it’s just more fun in general too.

So instead of:

Day 1: Total Body

Day 2: Total Body

Day 3: Total Body

Day 4: Total Body

Go With:

Day 1: Legs

Day 2: Chest & Back

Day 3: Shoulders, Calves, Interval Run.

Day 4: Arms & Core

Cap each workout at 45 minutes. Wait 48 hrs between workouts and don’t go longer. That’ll leave you with some energy and some amazing results! This is super important. It’ll feel like not quite enough. This is good!
